I was in charge of making the commercial, it was a fairly straight forward process. i started with a short pre production phase where i thought out some ideas of how i wanted to represent this "company" was pretty simple of just some office shots on b-roll and a simple interview set up

next  i wrote out a script for what i wanted to shoot. then i shot the video

while shooting the video i was able follow the rule of thirds  and used the rule of six in dealing with continuity of emotion, story, rhythm, eye trace, two dimensional place of screen, and three dimensional space.

overall this was a fairly straightforward and simple shooting process

Inglorious Basterds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uldpQpoZQM

as a director of this scene, i would want my actors to present the most suspenseful emotion that they can create, overall i think quinton had a great vision for this opening scene and it really sets the tone for the rest of the film. he would have had to work very closely with all of his departments to make this scene as great as it actually is.

if i were DP on this film i would shoot 2 or 3 cameras simultaneously since the scene is fairly close up, indoors, and cameras could be hidden outside of frame rather easily. and pick up any other shot that i wouldn't be able to get after 2 or 3 run-throughs with the simultaneous cameras running. as DP and with talking with the Director, i would want to use push ins and close ups to build pressure and tension for the scene. i would push the characters on the edge of the frame in order to not give them space in the frame, so they would feel trapped with no where to go. i would also work closely with my grip crew to make sure i can get the lighting exactly how i want to help match this scene.

As an Art Designer/Production design for this film i feel there was a very specific style that creates a realistic portrayal of the 1940's from the set design to glassware down to the pipes, now i don't know how authentic these props were, but they fit the motif of the film very well.

More in depth with production design, i feel the set they used in France to have this home also fits their motif very well, along with that in work with grip they were able to keep lighting and control exactly how Quinton wanted it and it shows

Costume designis very fitting for the era and give a good depiction of how the art designer and production designer developed different outfits that were created for this scene is

Farmers work shirt suspenders and trousers, they are stained with work and have lost the white color it once had

The Col. full military outfit, including medals and overcoat

3 soldiers Outfit including overcoats and boots,

Props would include guns

Photos of the Holland

I shot this on the 3rd floor at the library, i really like old books so that is why i shot so many of them, but this falls on the line of the third with very strong lines that pull you through the whole photo

I shot this through the back of a chair, the desk and light divide up the photo into the rule of thirds where the triangle type shapes give lines through out the photo

another shot of some books same principles and concepts this photo has a little bit stronger composition due to the fact the book starts right on the top third of the photo

again strong lines pulling you all the way through the photo, follows rule of thirds and vectors

the middle platform lies on a third, the stairs draw your eyes up to the key focus of the photo

long vertical lines set up this photo where the shadows on the wall break the photo into 3rd for us, as you follow the shadows down it gives you a since of direction

very strong focal point, strong lines of continuity and direction

strong lines pull you into the center of this photo squaring up and showcasing the vase, which actually isn't center, but i didn't want to move the vase and get in trouble, the desks actually lie on the rule of thirds mark, but due to the strong directional lines it works. even though it goes against the rules.

Landing Page

Over the break i found http://twilightconcerts.com landing page, and i really like how the page interacts with the mouse as you scroll over the image, it is intriguing enough to lure you into the rest of the sight, which is absolute crap and is limited in information it gives out. as far as landing page i think it was spot on with all of the concepts that we discussed in class, and provides a very lure into the rest of the sight.

Contrast Balance & Harmony

I took this photo a few weeks ago when it snowed up in Zion, i feel like this represents contrast perfectly. when one imagines Zion National Park they typically think of the harsh desert and the heat that is associated with those territories, but on the rare occasion we are privileged to view Zion dusted in snow. it is always hard to capture moments in time like this due to the area that it is in, blue skies quickly melt away everything that is represented in this photo. i feel as if the red is perfectly balanced with the clouds and the snow that creates a harmonious relationship. The key element in photography  is finding the balance in contrast which creates harmony. If you wait long enough the opportunity will present its self to be captured and then later to be shared.  The horizontal line starting at the bottom left direct you to more vertical lines of the rock, this is a stark contrast of lines that flow well with this photograph. this creates an overall balance of portions, between the sky, the rock, and the foreground. for these reasons i feel that this photograph depicts perfectly the scheme of contrast, balance and harmony.

Packaging

The design concepts of these films are very different, the 70's version is very apparent but has very little to tell you what type of film it is. it only shows some of the main characters faces, and only has a small clip art demonstration of what takes place in the movie. The movie pitch for this is dull and does not have a draw in more than a cheap 99 cent novel at the corner market.

the 2000's version gives much a more interesting  approach, although you can not see all 11 people, you cant see the people at all. the black and white silhouettes give much more of an action or spy film to it, the red 11 gives it a nice edge as well. the question presented at the bottom of the poster also makes you question what is going to happen and almost tells a story in its self, "are you in or out?"
the way that the characters are aligned on the poster also give you a feeling that there is one person in charge of it and no one else is a mastermind or a leader.

This is one of my favorite photos that i have ever taken, to me this is "How Beauty Feels".

I believe that this captures simplicity contrast and balance, there is very little to distract you from the direction of this photo. there is a very strong horizon line that splits the photo, but there is also line from the bottom right of the photo through the water up to the subjects. the contrast between the white dress and the storm clouds in the back give the subjects more of a pop. the sands that match the sky are separated by water and cloud which give space. the hard elements in the photo offer texture and balance to the entire photo.
